Land cartels are to blame for the skirmishes that led to the death of 15-year-old boy in Taita Taveta County, Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa has said.
According to the fiery coordinator, the tycoons who own large tracts of land in the region hired goons to attack security personnel who had accompanied land officials during the demarcation of a road in order to pave way for the construction of a road.
Speaking at Njukini during a security meeting with the locals, Marwa said that they have information about the persons who masterminded the attack, adding that investigations are underway. He further warned the cartels that they risk arrest and prosecution over the chaos.
“These are dollar billionaires who have grabbed up to hundreds of acres of land, but we will not sit back and watch the rich use the youth to antagonize security in the region,” he said.
He also said that the President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government has released 2,204 acres to resettle over 1000 squatters who have been occupying Sir Ramson farm and that it should not be used to create conflict.
The meeting was also attended by former Governor John Mruttu, Senator Jones Mwaruma, Woman Rep Lydia Haika and MCA of the area.
