Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has renewed the war against criminal gangs in Mombasa warning that they will be crashed in the latest crackdown.

Speaking while flagging off the peace caravan in Bamburi Mwisho over the weekend, Marwa noted that the youth gangs are regrouping and positioning themselves ready for hire by politicians to intimidate others in the run up to the August 8 elections.

While warning the gangs, the tough-talking Marwa said the government is aware of their dealings and that they will be dealt with accordingly.

"We have reliably been informed about the gangs which are regrouping for hire by politicians. If you know that you are outside there thinking that you can be hired to go and cause violence in rallies, forget it. You should know that your time is up and that we are coming for you,” said Marwa.

Marwa also warned politicians, saying they will not be spared either should they engage in violent campaigns.

Mombasa is one of the counties that the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has shortlisted as hot spots of violence especially during the election period.
