Talking to journalists at his Uhuru na Kazi offices on Wednesday, Marwa said the rising crime rate at the Coast was connected to the high number of drug dealers operating in the county.

“We won’t allow our county to be turned into a den of murder cases. The government has enough machinery to deal with the culprits and police officers should not be sleeping on their job,” said Marwa.

This comes hours after police in the area retrieved the body of a Dutch citizen from a septic tank.

The victim, identified as Jacobus Van Der Goes, had been reported missing in January.

A similar case was reported a few days ago after a Mombasa-based model was found dead at her Kizingo home.

Marwa has now ordered the police to move with speed and ensure that the gangs responsible for the killings are brought to book.
