Politicians uttering statements that are likely to trigger violence will be arrested and prosecuted, Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa has said.
Marwa, who is known for his firm stand on security matters, said action will be taken against both NASA and Jubilee politicians found culpable of making inflammatory remarks.Speaking on Thursday in Lamu, the regional coordinator urged politicians to preach peace before, during and after the August 8 elections. Marwa said he will execute his duties without fear or favour, adding that he will ensure all politicians propagating hate speech are apprehended in court regardless of their political affiliations.“Politicians must use a language that brings people together. We don’t care whether you are in Jubilee or NASA, all I care about is law and order since that’s my job. We won’t tolerate people propagating hate speech and using insults all in the name of campaigning. In such a case, the law shall definitely take its course,” said Marwa, as quoted by Baraka FM.
