Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has warned residents in the region against propagating hate speech.

Marwa said hate mongers are a threat to the peaceful co-existence in the region and thus will be punished regardless of their political affiliations.Speaking in Mombasa on Thursday after holding a meeting with security stakeholders in the county, Marwa warned youth against spreading hate messages regarding the presidential election, saying the matter will be handled by the Supreme Court.“The issues of NASA and Jubilee are now being handled at the corridors of the Judiciary so let us all refrain from spreading hate messages and get back to work,” said Marwa. He said security agents in the region were keenly following all events related to the recently concluded general election, adding that whoever will be caught propagating hate speech will be arrested and charged in court.“We all preached peace during the campaign period and the elections were peaceful. Why are we going back to the same situation yet elections are over?” asked Marwa. He, however, said the Coast region was calm and no violent incidences had been reported in the area.He appealed to Coast residents to embrace peace to avoid clashes that may affect the region’s economy.“I applaud all those who played a role in ensuring the region remains calm from politicians, religious leaders and even the media. Let us carry own with the cooperation,” he added. On his part, Coast regional police commander Larry Kieng cautioned residents especially youth against being used by politicians to cause chaos, and urged them to instead focus on income generating activities.
