Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has said Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi was detained for engaging in illegal campaigns.Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Marwa confirmed that Kingi was detained at Ngerenya AP post for several hours on Tuesday alongside a host of other leaders."Campaigns ended on Monday at midnight. The laws are very clear on how to deal with such incidents," said Marwa.Speaking shortly after their release, Kingi said they were arrested as they were heading to Ngerenye to distribute food to residents due to the ongoing drought being witnessed in the county. The county boss accused the government of intimidating opposition leaders from the Coast region."There is hunger in the whole of Kilifi. The government is not responding but is trying to intimidate those helping residents," said Kingi.Marwa, however, downplayed Kingi's assertions, maintaining that the government is not targeting specific opposition leaders."There is only one law and it is good that it is applied uniformly. That is what we are doing in this region," said Marwa.Kingi was arrested alongside MPs Owen Baya (Kilifi North), William Kamoti (Rabai), Teddy Mwambire (Ganze), Ken Chonga (Kilifi South), Paul Katana (Kaloleni), Michael Kingi (Magarini), and Kilifi County Women Representative Getrude Mbeyu.
