Some security officials in Mombasa County have been accused of undermining the County government’s efforts in fighting the drug menace that has affected many youth in the coast region.
Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa said some security officials in the county are working with suspected drug barons.
Mr Marwa cautioned police officers against protecting drug peddlers saying those who offered protection to the peddlers would have themselves to blame when action is taken against them.
Speaking to the press at the county headquarters in Mombasa, Mr Marwa accused the rogue officers of refusing to arrest one drug peddler in Kwale County whom he is said is seen with the officers.
“The suspect is seen taking lunch with police officers. What kind of lunch is that? No force will undermine the Government’s quest to fight drugs.”
“We will not allow a few officers to spoil the name of diligent officers in the National Police Service,” said Mr Marwa.
“Some officers are colluding with this barons, they must come out clearly and tell Kenyans whether they are National police service or are in their own. I will name their names, I don’t care.”
The regional coordinator attributed the increase of crime levels and violent gangs in the region to drug abuse among the youth.
