Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa has warned politicians against hiring goons to disrupt peace during political rallies.
Marwa said politicians who hire goons risk arrest and prosecution.
In a statement to newsrooms on Tuesday, the regional coordinator said police are investigating some politicians following claims of hiring goons to disrupt peace during political rallies.
“We are aware that a section of politicians are hiring goons to intimidate and harass their political opponents,” he said.
Marwa asked politicians to ensure they get permits before holding rallies, adding that the move will help police officers in coordinating security during the events.
The coordinator also warned politicians against making statements that could trigger violence this electioneering period, saying they are under strict instructions not to tolerate hate mongers.
“Police will coordinate with other government agencies to monitor hate mongers as the 2017 general election nears,” said Marwa.
