Coast Regional Commissioner Nelson Marwa has warned traffic officers against receiving bribes from drivers during the festive season.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, Marwa said that officers taking bribes from drivers risk being arrested and charged courts of law.

He reminded the officers to ensure that only roadworthy vehicles are plying different routes to regulate the increased number of accidents. He also said that drivers will be held accountable if found carrying excess passengers.

“Their responsibility is to ensure that they stop the car and passengers alight, not getting into an agreement with the owners allowing the car pass and later on we hear an accident happened and all have perished. This madness must stop!” said Marwa, as quoted by Baraka FM.

Marwa also called upon passengers and drivers to allow security officer search through vehicles as the fight to curb incidences of crime intensifies. He further said that the security officers are working together with county government to ensure that security is enhanced during this period.

“In conjunction with the county government, we are going to ensure that traffic flows in areas such as Kibarani, the bridge,  Bamburi area and Mtwapa,” he said.
