Masaba North District schools have made a special appeal to Teachers Service commission (TSC) to deploy more teachers in the region.
Speaking on Thursday at Nyakongo High School, area school headmasters said education quality is under threat due high number of students.
They said the predicament had persisted for a number of years despite their leaders raising the issue.
Bruce Kerage of Nyakongo High School warned possible deterioration of performance since some teachers have been compelled to attend higher number of students contrary to education Acts.
“Most schools here are understaffed. We have scarcity of science and humanity teachers. It is an enormous challenge that should be dealt with in urgency to avoid performance deterioration,” notes Kerage.
“We have raised the concern with TSC since 2012 but no action has been taken,” adds Kerage.
For now the teachers have given TSC an ultimatum of two weeks to fix the problem failure to which they will take the matter to the trade union.
“We have teachers who are unemployed by TSC has kept us in darkness for all this time. It is important for them to respond before the matter becomes a trade union affair,” said Masara Ombori of Riakworo secondary school.
