Speaking at Rigoma secondary school on Wednesday during an impromptu meeting to discuss the rampant cases of teachers over-drinking liquor, the school heads appealed to the Teachers Service Commission to help them tackle the vice since the affected teachers were becoming a bad influence to their students.

They came up with a resolution of having the culprits suspended from teaching for at least a month besides being denied the salary for that particular month they are caught committing the offence.

“This is our society and we can’t run away from the vice. Some of our teachers are involved in excessive drinking contrary to the teaching ethics and this is has been noted by a section of parents in some of our schools,” said Duke Ogamba of Riamoni.

“We have unanimously agreed that the affected teachers to be disciplined by being suspended from the school by principals and subsequently denied their monthly payments. We really urge TSC to support our resolution,” added Masara Ombori of Riakworo Mixed.

They faulted the existing punishment by the TSC that requires indepth investigations and other bureaucracies that sometimes allows the culprits to snub the punishment.

“TSC has been very lenient over this matter. Even if we take evidence to them, they take a long time before acting and that is why we want to be given powers to act,” added Mr Ombori
