Few hours after the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Appeal Court to award teachers between 50 and 60 per cent increase of the basic salary, Masaba North Kenya National Union of Teachers branch has welcomed the move.

According to the senior branch official, teachers should not be exposed unnecessarily to tussle with the government since the habit was impacting negatively to the students.

Assistant secretary general James Oteki on Monday said Masaba teachers were ready to face the learners in class and give their best but warned the government of undermining teachers.

“Teachers are law-abiding citizens and that was been seen throughout the court battle. The case has now been settled and it’s the time for the government to implement the directive. As teachers, we should not always be exposed to such processes because it becomes catastrophic to learners,” he said.

He urged teachers to continue executing their mandate seriously after the landmark ruling besides focusing on improving the performance of the region.

“The issue is behind us and we have to forge forward. Teachers should now focus on proving that we deserved the increment. We must give results and that is what parents needs from us. The region ought to shine nationally and we are up to task,” he said.

He hailed the judiciary for acting as an independent entity and urged Kenyans to have faith in the court system.
