The County Director of Sports Mr. Stephen Kilonzo made the announcement during the launch of the tournament on Wenesday, noting that five international teams would be participating in the event with eleven local teams, making a total of 16 teams.
England, France and Uganda have confirmed their participation with the England team pledging to continue collaborating with the Machakos School for the Deaf in integrating the disabled in the sport.
Director Kilonzo observed that 2016’s tournament was expected to draw a huge number of participants and rugby fans, which has prompted comprehensive preparations in readiness for the sports’ tourism venture.
Kilonzo noted that the tournament comes at a time when there would be no other events hence giving the area an opportunity to enhance and expand local businesses, with the organisers promising to prioritize local suppliers to facilitate the occasion.
Separately, the National Campaign against Drugs Abuse (NACADA) chairman John Mututho has directed limited sale of alcohol to avoid obscene scenes as witnessed during the last tournament. Speaking in Nakuru this morning, Mututho has said that they will deploy a team to monitor the use of drug and alcohol during the tournament.
