Kisumu County residents living in areas where roads have become impassble due rains have been asked to be patient as the government is planning to rehabilitate them.
An officer from the County Roads Executive office has said that the long tendering process is to blame for the delayed repair of roads.
“The tendering process is a must before we embark on any development project. This is because it is a requirement by the law and at the moment our hands are tied awaiting the completion,” said Dorothy Agina, the Roads CeC.
Agina said that the tendering process began late as the county government was strategising on how to carry out development projects.
“Our people should not panic that the county government is not aware of the challenges facing them. We know all areas where the rains hamper accessibility of roads. We have done the planning and we are awaiting the implementation,”Agina said.
Agina who was addressing residents of Chemelil in Kisumu County during the Labour Day celebrations said that roads were among the key areas Kisumu County government was focusing on.
She was reacting to cases where motorbike operators from Maseno and Kisian demonstrated over the poor state of roads by planting banana stems to express their disappointment.
