The power distributor is conducting an awareness programme at a time when residents have been experiencing frequent power outages.

Speaking during the road show, Jane Ciku, an educator, said illegal power connections are a major contributor to the frequent power blackouts.

She said the illegal power links cause power overload to the power transformers which leads them break down hence the blackouts.

She said the legal formalities are mandatory for anyone wishing to be connected to the national power grid.

“The company will connect them and besides install bigger and more powerful transformers that can accommodate a larger number of clients,” she said.

The residents were also educated on how to respond to electricity emergencies, such as fires and electrocutions.

They were also provided with a contact number -95551- in case they need help from the company’s customer care.

Residents also got a chance to ask questions as well seek clarification on power issues affecting them.

Away from the educative programme, the residents were entertained by the famous Zangalewa dancers who led them in putting their best foot forward.
