Maseno Business Owners Association Secretary General Paul Otolo said the peace enjoyed during the semester period has promoted a healthy business environment.

Speaking to this writer on Wednesday via phone, Mr Otolo said the healthy business environment had led to the growth of Maseno township's economy.

"Everything has been steady and smooth throughout. Our members are enjoying business. This is all due to calmness exhibited by students, unlike before when we used to have strikes and riots," said Otolo.

Otolo said many traders previously used to shy away due to fear of student riots.

"This semester, we have not seen any cause for alarm as the students are calm than before. During riots we have seen many traders lose property to looting. We have seen new traders coming in and all this has led to the growth of Maseno economy," added Otolo.

Otolo encouraged students to maintain good discipline and find alternative ways to solve issues affecting them.

"What I would like to tell the students is that they should find an alternative means of solving problems because demonstrations and riots usually have long term effects, we do hope this calmness will be replicated in the next semesters," said Otolo.
