Maseno University students on Tuesday stood in solidarity with other University comrades from the country in condemning the murder of Evans Njoroge, who was a student and the Secretary General of Meru University.
Njoroge was allegedly shot dead by anti-riot police officers yesterday when students from the institution demonstrated over fee increment by the University Management.
Maseno University students condemned the incident terming it as excessive use of force by the police.
One of the students posted on Maseno Campus Politics Platform (CPP) a Facebook group commonly used by students in the Institution:
"This evening I am quite perturbed by the elimination of a strong, vibrant and future leader of this country by the so called Boinnet boys. The same elements who should preserve our lives are the ones taking it away under orders! It pains me to accept the loss of Evans Njoroge of Meru University but life must continue. They say heroes are born but one can make it if he chooses to just like Evans. Rest in peace and may God provide us with leaders like you."
More students condemned the killing with another comrade, Jaramogi Ochoro posting:
"Maseno University will do it Busia road! Egerton Njoro road, University of Nairobi University way, Kenyatta University Thika road! Masinde Muliro Kakamega road! The fourth arm of the Government must now be respected!#JusticeForNjoroge."
The Institution's Secretary General, Steve Tsuma posted:
"This afternoon my fellow counterpart from Meru University Students Union Evans Njoroge was shot dead by police during a peaceful protest against fee increment. It is sad to lose such a powerful leader more so during quest for justice. I would like to send my condolences and that of the Maseno University Students Union to his family, friends and Meru University fraternity. May God give you strength during such a difficult moment#JusticeForNjoroge."
