At the moment, everybody accessing the institution is subjected to thorough frisking, while administration police officers patrol the institution day and night.

The students feel that it was high time the measures were introduced to avert attacks such as the one witnessed in Garissa University College that left 148 people dead.

“I feel safe when I see security agencies around and busy working to ensure we are safe, it is such a nice thing from the administration,” said Mary Penda, a student at the institution.

A majority of the students have acknowledged that the Garissa attack was a wakeup call to all institutions to ensure that students are safe.

“Looking at our security system before and now, it is true that we were vulnerable to anything, and it is good somebody acted quickly,” said Martin Obola.

The students had earlier expressed their anger with the varsity’s decision to postpone the opening date by two weeks, citing security measures, and now a majority see the reason why it was worth pushing ahead the opening date.

“If this are the changes that took place following the postponement, then we were wrong for criticizing the institution,” added Aggrey Opondo.

However, the students also want the same security measures accorded to the students residing outside the institution.
