Maseno University is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) to enable Maseno University School of Medicine students use the hospital as a teaching facility.
The university director of public relations Jaspher Otieno said the MOU to be signed today (Thursdays) in Kisumu to provide critical guidelines for effective and smooth use of the hospital by Maseno University as a venue for clinical teaching, practice and medical research.
“We are going to do the MOU signing on Friday at Kisumu hotel and all the relevant authorities will be present,” said Otieno.
Otieno said the agreement will enhance training of medical doctors from Maseno University which will in effect address the shortage of doctors in the region and Kisumu County in particular.
He noted that the agreement will also improve quality of clinical care and health outcomes by optimising the synergy in medical training, research and clinical care.
Otieno said the pioneer class of the School of Medicine of 50 medical students are already undertaking their fourth year clinical clerkships at the hospital and providing the necessary support in various departments at the hospital.
