Maseno University has extended the voting on the new proposed students’ constitution by one week.
According to the Students Organisation of Maseno University director of Public Relations and promotion, low voter turnout prompted the postponement. "Let me take this opportunity to inform you that the referendum voting has been extended by a week again. The 1,199 voters cannot represent the interest of the 13,000 students of Maseno University. It is under this backdrop that the voting has been extended. Kindly log into your student portal and vote to reach the needed thresh hold," said Omondi who posted the information in students official Facebook page.
The constitution was recently revised and new amendments made to cater for the students’ needs. The institution has rolled a mechanism of voting through the students’ online portal.
The online voting system was formulated in order to enable many students to vote, but for two months now the turnout is still low. Last week the institution launched a civic education campaign to enlighten the students on the importance of voting for the students’ constitution.
The amendments were made by the students themselves. The voting is expected to close on the October 5 at midnight.
