Maseno University Dean of Student Edward Olela has revealed that the University will introduce position of director of gender to fight for rights of women to mark the International Women's Day.

Olela said that his office will do reviews so that the gender are equally represented equally.

"One of things we have introduced as SOMU constitution now is a position of director of gender so that this person can fight for the rights of women," said Olela.

He said that the person to assume the position is also to sit during students disciplinary. Most of the time it is the SOMU president and Secretary general at the students disciplinary.

Olela revealed that come March 8 the University will launch a platform on the students website to file Gender based violence complaints amongst student.

The University Director Institute of Gender Studies Dr. Karen Nyangara said that the institute recognises World International Women's Day and will launch a website to put out complains on Gender Based Violence (GBV).

"The website is still on set and from Monday students will be post any Gender Based Violence incidents," said Dr. Nyangara.

Dr. Nyangara also gave out a tall number 0725-315874 which works 24/7 for victims and students to file complaints on GBV.

She said that anonymous complainants can file their complaints which will immediately be followed up and be addressed.

Stacey Chepkemoi, the University student, urged her fellow students to be aggressive and fight for their right as young women and to try venturing into business to earn a living while in campus.
