Maseno University has launched manhunt for a woman who is believed to have conned students thousands of their money.

The woman who uses name “Anita Mcute” on social media has been deceiving students to make money contribution to hospital bill of Sh3.8 million for Dickson Kibiwott, a student in the university battling Multiple Sclerosis in hospital.

Anita is said to have been receiving money from the students by making posts on social media about Dickson’s illness and providing a different Mpesa number for students and well-wishers to make contributions, a number she claims  belongs to Dicksons's dad  which is also different from the official number provided by Maseno SOMU leader Fred Makajos some months ago.

According to a message sent to students by the administration via the Official website and Facebook account, friends and well-wishers were required to make contributions via paybill number with account name DICKSON KIBIWOTT. However the mobile number provided by Anita belongs to Keneth Murungi, a person who is unknown to Dicksons's family.

"We are working with the administration to look into this matter and yesterday I gave Maseno Police her name and I think we will get her behind the bars soon,” Fred Makajos said.
