After a long period of comrades complaining and even threatening to go on strike due to the delayed Student Organization of Maseno University (SOMU) elections, the varsity’s administration has finally communicated through a memo.

The memo was circulated in the institution and on also posted on the university’s website.

The memo indicated that there will be no direct voting as per the University Amendment Act of 2016 that changed the voting system in universities.

The student council will be elected by an electoral college which will be voted in by the students’ body. 

Election of the electoral college delegates will take place on February 7, 2018, at the Maseno main campus as well as the university’s Kisumu City Campus. 

Election of the student council by the electoral college will take place on February 9, 2018.

The electoral college shall be dissolved immediately after the election.

According to the memo, all the appeals should be submitted to the Director Student Affair’s office by 5 pm February 12.

The swearing in of the Student Council for positions where there is no appeal will take place within seven days of the election.
