The laptop garage has always been a point of reference to anyone with a software or hardware problem on his or her computer at Maseno. Located along Siriba road, laptop garage is a small kiosk that deals in computer repairs and computer spares. What anyone barely knows is that the sole proprietor of the business is a fourth year computer student at Maseno University.
Speaking to Mark Odhiambo, the owner of the business, he said that he never knew that his hobby could turn out and be a great business idea.
He that after he began getting a big number of clients, he was prompted to look for a kiosk at the market where he could serve his clients from.
“My roommates complained over the high number of visitors in my room, this forced me to look for a kiosk,” he said.
During the interview, Mark told this reporter that he had discovered he was good at handling computer problems when he was still in high school. He said that he helped the lab technician troubleshoot computer problems.
Though the job is highly lucrative, he said that balancing his class work and the job is not a walk in the park since he sometime has to travel to Nairobi to look for spares.
“I handle hundreds of computer issues per day, besides that, I also have class work which I must attend to promptly,” he said.
Currently, he is training two students who help him whenever he is busy.
“For one to be a successful business person, one must know how to utilise time and also put the customer interests first," he said.
