Maseno University students have been urged to concentrate on their studies seriously and avoid distractions that might affect their academic performances.
Addressing a group of students from the institution, Africa Youth Alliance western Coordinator Paul Kiuna said that these days, many university students are taking education for granted by prioritising other things rather than studies.
“Today when somebody has joined campus, he or she only thinks about having fun where studies are neglected because we have a notion that the university is where we are free to do anything,” said Kiuna.
Kiuna who was addressing the students on Friday in Kisumu during a conference on Youth and Leadership warned that if academic matters are not given serious attention, many students might find it hard adapting in the real world.
He said that all students should concentrate on what brought him to campus rather than giving in to peer pressure.
“We should not do things because our friends are doing them. Just concentrate on your main objective,” said Kiuna.
Kiuna added that academic excellence is a sure guarantee that one will make it in the job market. He also urged higher education institutions to step up and give academic matters the seriousness they deserve for students to reciprocate the same by taking studies seriously.
