Maseno University students are demanding the reinstatement of 26 students who were suspended for taking part in an illegal demonstration last semester.
The suspended students had moved to the Kisumu High Court but the matter was referred back to the university Senate but the outcome has not been communicated.
Edgar Murunga, a third-year student of education said the suspension was unwarranted and should be reversed.
Murunga said the Senate has taken too long to give out the verdict and threatened that they will be forced to take further legal action.
“We will be forced to move to court to compel the Senate to release its report,” he said.
Addressing a press conference at the Kisumu Maseno City’s University Campus on Friday, the students said they will be in solidarity with their colleagues.
Another student Brian Onyango, secretary general of biomedical school and under suspension said the demonstration was authorised by the administration.
Onyango said the demonstration was as a result of infringement of the students’ rights and wondered why they were later accused of inciting other students’ to join in the demonstrations.
Kisumu County Students Union secretary general Fred Makajosh said parents are the most affected by the suspension and urged the university Senate to make their recommendations known.
