Two university students who were compelled by the university administration to meet damages caused to property belonging to John Otini, their landlord, have threatened to sue the landlord for forcefully evicting them in his house.
Speaking to this writer on Saturday in Maseno the two claimed they were evicted from the house without an eviction notice.
“We are going to take legal action against the landlord for forced eviction and exploitation through over-charging rent. We have the receipts that prove we paid the money yet he has none. We have talked to our lawyer and we are waiting directions from him,” said Peter Sangi.
The two were evicted by the landlord after claiming that they damaged his property.
Otini said the two vandalised electrical cables, damaged a bed and the door of the room.
They were also alleged to have refused to pay Sh8,000 owed to the landlord.
They were thrown out by the landlord at the beginning of the semester.
The two Jacob Auko and Peter Sangi are third year students pursuing Bachelor of Arts Education.
The landlord, however, when contacted said he was not afraid of going to court.
“They claim they know their rights. Let them take the matter to court. I know the truth will prevail,” said Otini.
The incident happened in Runda estate.
