Maseno University in collaboration with four other universities in Kenya will host a conference on health communication on Monday, December 7 at the Kisumu Hotel.
The institution's public relations director Jasper Otieno said the Conference which is supported by PATH, a non-governmental organisation, aims at creating linkages between academic institutions and PATH in order to formulate effective communication strategies on health issues.
Otieno said the universities collaborating in the conference are: Daystar University, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Rongo University College, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology and Great Lakes University.
The conference aims at establishing a basis for professional collaboration leading to knowledge exchange with the academic institutions.
He said the conference is a follow-up on the Kisumu Governor’s breakfast meeting that strategically opted to latch on the RTS vaccine announcement to act as a point of convergence for the political leadership of the region.
"The thematic areas to be discussed in the conference include, Advocacy communication, social mobilization around malaria; the malaria situation in Kenya, the malaria situation analysis, malaria commodity supply health systems in a devolved governance structure and health care financing," he said.
