Toro said that more than 1,000 IDs lie uncollected despite the owners being aware.

“Many people usually apply for IDs but they do not collect them. The government does not have mechanism to deliver ID cards at their homes or bring the cards at their work place,” said Toro.

Toro who was addressing a baraza in Maseno on Wednesday morning asked those who have applied for the IDs to be checking for them regularly.

He said that many usually assume the responsibility of collecting the identification cards until when faced with an emergency situation.

He warned that the cards should be picked as soon as possible because the government is not a storage facility.

It is illegal to be above 18 years and you do not have ID card. If you are above 18 years you need to have the document,” said Toro.

He noted that the most affected people are high school leavers.

“You will need an identity card for you enjoy your constitutional rights such as voting. I therefore urge everybody who has applied for an identity card to kindly visit our offices and collect it,” said Toro.
