Speaking after touring the town, a team of public health officers led by Maurice Kamama said that waste is being disposed randomly, something that poses a health risk to the locals.

"There is rubbish everywhere, there is no order of disposing the rubbish, there are wastes even next to cooking places," said Kamama.

Kamama said the traders have been warned before but it seems nobody has acted on the warning issued.

"If nobody heeds to this warning then we have no choice to shut down such stalls, " said Kamama.

He added that Maseno is a highly populated place and poor waste disposal is putting health of many at risk. He said that there has been a recent cholera outbreak and the government is doing everything possible to ensure no cases are reported.

He added that many business had not set up waste disposal sites. He acknowledged that the Kisumu County government has a challenge in managing waste but that should not be an excuse to dispose waste without a plan.
