Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has received backing from his closed competitor in the just concluded August 8th polls. David Masika has withdrawn his petition challenging Kibwana’s win.
Speaking on Wednesday in Wote Town during a burial, the two leaders said that residents should forget the campaign rhetoric and develop Makueni.
Governor Kibwana invited Masika to speak when he (Kibwana) was called to speak. The two laid a wreath and embraced amid cheers and a standing ovation from mourners. Masika stated that his decision to drop the petition against Kibwana was aimed at giving Makueni residents an opportunity to harvest the fruits of devolution.
The Governor praised Masika and his lawyers led by Kyalo Mbobu who advised their client to drop the case. Kibwana’s 221,228 majority votes against Masika’s 25,789 convinced them not to move to court.
"I have known Masika for a long time. From my interaction with him, he is development conscious," Kibwana said as quoted by the Star.
Kibwana asked their supporters to forget the campaigns and soldier on. He said development is now the main agenda.
“During the campaigns, our lieutenants might have exchanged bitter words on our behalf. We will put that aside," he added.
