This comes a moment after Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission ranked Kisii County as the fifth most corrupt in terms of public service delivery.

While Masira admitted corruption incidents in Nyamira, he said the MCAs have put ‘prolific’ effort towards summoning and subsequent conviction of a host of county officials implicated in corruption.

“I believe that as a county assembly, we have done exceptionally well in safeguarding public resources from looting than our counterparts in Kisii assembly,” Masira said during Wednesday’s interview.

“I have seen my team putting efforts towards summoning and even convicting a number of county officials implicated in a number of scandals. We work tirelessly without being compromised,” Masira added.

Masira also lauded the Nyamira media for working transparently to bring controversial issues to limelight and seemed to question the credibility of Kisii based Journalists.

“Sometimes our county becomes a laughing stock when a number of corruption issues are raised. What people need to know is that the assembly works closely with the media to bring all these matters to public attention,” he said.

“But I think Kisii journalists are always keen to hide bad things going on in the county government. I am only trying to evaluate why Kisii appeared on top five corrupt counties yet they are not constant in national headlines. We also rarely hear the MCAs debating on corruption issues yet EACC mentioned them in the report,” he said.

Nyamira County has been in national headlines for a number of times with the alleged construction of Sh7 million gate drawing attention of the nation.
