A mason, who conned a granny Sh 25,000, was arraigned in a Nakuru court to face charges of fraudulently receiving money from the woman. The court heard that on the evening of February 2 within Mwariki area in Nakuru town, Duncan Mwaura, 26, posing as a mason received Sh 25, 000 from Salome Wamboi, who the court was told is old enough to be the accused grandmother. He promised to buy building material and pay workers to refurbish three rental houses owned by the complainant. The prosecution desk said that the accused, however, never fulfilled the agreement and went into hiding. The court was told that the complainant had sought assistance from her relatives and the area chief who launched an investigation into the whereabouts of the accused. He was arrested by police officers from Nakuru Central Police Station on February 25, in Gethima area following a tip off by a relative of the complainant who alerted police. The accused, the court was told, took advantage of the trust bestowed on him by the granny who is a family friend to the accused and who had employed him as an agent at the rental houses for a long time. Chief Resident Magistrate James Mwaniki remanded him in custody after failing to raise a cash bond of Sh 30, 000. The case will be heard on March 17.
