The four are to be upgraded to world class facilities by the end of the renovations and the upgrade which should be due in the next seven or so months.

Governor Mike Sonko announced the plans to upgrade the stadium and it indeed is a decent move by the under pressure governor who has come under scrutiny in the recent past for his casual response to the problems the city is facing.

“My administration has started the construction of four state of the art stadiums, which will be located in Dandora, Jacaranda Grounds, Kariakor and Kihumbini," Sonko said.

Sonko added saying the four will address the need for more sports and recreational facilities for the youth in Nairobi.

The governor also made clear the county’s intentions to construct swimming pools and sports fields in all the 17 constituencies.

The stadiums are expected to meet FIFA standards and will include amenities such as modern changing rooms, referee rooms and restaurants.

Moreover, the stadiums are expected to have maximum security with and expected 24-hour surveillance as they will be fitted with CCTV cameras as well as a public address system two modern floodlights.

“The aim of the project is to nurture talent and to keep the youth busy through sports,” Sonko said

It remains to be seen how fast the project will be completed and how well it serves to meet the playground requirement among the youthful Nairobi County population.
