Garissa tourism industry has received a massive boost, after a local hotel and other stakeholders pledged to market the sector.

Officials from the tourism industry in the Northeastern county want a proposed protection services be addressed as some of the fundamental challenges.

The tourism partners gave their views during a one-day consultative workshop organized by the Tourism ministry in Garissa town on Saturday,.

Lantern Hotel manager Chombo Erskine said despite the county having tremendous tourism potential, nothing much has never been done to market the region in both the local and international markets.

He cited security and terrorist attacks as some of the factors that have paralyzed the sector.

“When an incident happens in Mandera County, for instance, it will eventually end up having very adverse effects to regional tourism,” Chombo said.

He further added that for the past year, there have been notable improvements in regional security, with Sheikh Mohamed Abdikeir from the neighboring Wajir stating that it was the third time in less than three months the Tourism ministry has organized a workshop in Garissa town to promote tourism.
