Mumbuni Secondary School in Mwala Sub-County is one of the beneficiaries of Mastercard Foundation scholarship program that has seen teachers use digital technology while teaching English and Science subjects, leading to great performance.

Speaking during a prize giving ceremony in Mumbuni Secondary School, principal Timothy Wambua stated that technology had improved the performance in the respective subjects.

“The Mastercard initiative introduced technology in our English and Science subjects that have seen students grow great interests in the subjects resulting to the best performance as reflected in the last years’ national exams,” said Wambua.

Present during the ceremony was also an official from Mastercard Foundation Esther Muheria who stated the objective of introducing the new teaching technology is to produce students who are compliant with the 21st century changes.

“We are in a digital changing country and in the 21st century we require to teach students with 21st century tools,” said Muheria.

Muheria also named other schools chosen to benefit from the program in Machakos County.

“There are several schools that will also receive the technology learning program which include: Mwala Secondary School, Vyulya girls, Ikombe girls School and Masii girls School. We are targeting 80 schools in Kenya and 30 in Tanzania,” she added.

In attendance as the guest of honour was the area Educational officer Laban Ayiro who encouraged the teachers, students and parents to unite and work together so as to improve education level in Machakos County.
