Mataara Tea Factory aims at generating their own electricity that will lower the cost of production and increase profits for their farmers.
According to the management, the plant will be built on river Chania and will produce electricity required by the factory and the same will be extended to the nearby residents at a lower cost.
The project that is scheduled to use an un-revealed amount of millions comes after an announcement by Xinhua, quoting KTDA Managing Director, saying that Mataara Tea factory will benefit from a small hydropower station called Chania Mataara Small Hydropower Station.
The area of response has so far been cleared, and the owners of the land compensated in a bid to fasten the move.
“This project will create jobs for the area residents, prices of tea will rise, electricity will be provided to the nearby residents and even growth of the area will be happen,” James Mburu, a resident explains after inquiry of the projects benefits.
'The project will come with a lot of positive outcomes as many youths will be employed and the price of tea will rise, an act that will benefit farmers; owners of the areas to locate the project have already been paid and the deal will commence anytime from now,” Joseph Mukora, the factory director explained.
Farmers are now awaiting the commencement of the project to start enjoying owning the greatest share of river Chania, which is one of the main sources of Nairobi water.
