A standoff between casual workers and supervisors at the crucial hydro-power generation plant by Mataara Tea Factory has ended.
The resolution came yesterday after wide consultations between stakeholders.
Speaking from the meeting held at the factory canteen on Tuesday, the more than one hundred labourers agreed resume working after their grievances were addressed by both the company director and senior project supervisor.
“Your dues will always be timely as you've heard from your senior supervisor. I also guarantee you no harassment as you carry out your construction activities. Also in a meeting held on Saturday, we agreed to increase your pay and the payments will be made every Saturday evening,” said Mukora Kimani the company’s senior director.
Patrick Mugo, the senior project supervisor said, “We noted that some of the supervisors were harassing many of you. On this, we have fired two of them.”
The workers are now expected to return for work on Thursday.
“We expect all of you to resume your duties by 8am,” added Mugo.
The workers lauded the firing of the supervisors and the pay increment.
