AFC Leopards Coach Robert Matano has downplayed this weekend’s fixture against archrivals Gor Mahia, saying he will treat it just like another match in their preparations.

The two teams will lock horns during the curtain raiser of the new Kenya Premier League season, in a match to be staged at the Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium.

Speaking on Wednesday after a friendly match against KCCA of Uganda in Machakos, Matano said their preparations are in top gear and they look forward to the new season.

His team showed their strength once again after beating their opponents 2-1 om the match that was played at the Kenyatta Stadium.

Joseph Kuria scored the first goal in the 29th minute, giving them the lead going into the break.

They had to wait until the 67th minute for the second goal, Jeffrey Awiti grabbing the winning goal.

The victors pulled one back in the 89th minute, but the KPL side was able to hold on their win.

“It was a good match for us, KCCA is a good team and you know most of our players are new, we did well. Our players are trying to gel, and we are trying to get a new team,”

The new season kicks next month.
