Harambee Stars’ goalkeeper Patrick Matasi says he was surprised to win the Most Valuable Player Award in the just concluded Cecafa senior challenge tournament.Matasi, who plays for Posta Rangers in the local top flight league, was a hero after saving three penalties against Zanzibar, to hand Stars the Cecafa trophy.“I did not expect to win the award, to be honest. The Zanzibar player who scored twice against us in the finals (Khamis Musa) has had an outstanding tournament and I thought he would get the award,” Matasi said on Monday during a Sportpesa event, in which the team was awarded Sh 3 million by the gaming firm.Matasi urged Kenyans to be patient with new Stars coach Paul Put.“I want to tell every Kenyan to be patient with the coach. Not many expected us to reach the finals, let alone win the tournament, yet we came out on top. There is a plan that he has for Kenyan football and with time we will all see what that is,” Matasi emphasised.
