A matatu driver was on Wednesday arraigned before a Mombasa Court to answer to charges of assaulting a traffic police officer.Ali Kambi Mkembi was charged with assaulting Winnie Wangari, a traffic police officer. The court heard that the assault took place in Changamwe on December 18, 2017.The prosecution told the court that Kambi was stopped at a roadblock by police after they discovered his matatu had mismatching tires. Ali is reported to have refused to be booked, forcing Wangari, who was the officer on duty, to use force in a bid to arrest him.The suspect, however, denied the charges and accused the police of using excessive force during the arrest. He defended his actions saying the officer wanted to arrest him while he was still in the car.“She arrested me when I was in the car and I got angry and frustrated,” he said as quoted by Tuko.co.ke. He, however, admitted to driving a matatu with mismatched tyres. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
