A matatu driver has been jailed for one year for severely injuring a boda boda operator in an accident that occurred at Sophia town in Yatta Sub-County.

The case was heard in Kithimani Law Court before Principal Magistrate Davis Karani.

Antony Nzuki the driver of public service vehicle (Psv), bearing the number plates KBH 429W, had been accused of hitting Kamau Wanyoike, a boda boda operator bearing the plates, KMDB 669N, who was heading towards Ndalani area.

Matatu rammed into the motor cycle from behind throwing it a few meters to the sides of the road causing severe injuries on the operator who was then rushed to hospital.

According to a report presented by medical practitioners from Matuu Level 5 Hospital where he received first treatment before he was transferred to Machakos level 5 Hospital, Wanyoike sustained head and face injuries and severe limb fractures.

After the prosecution tabled the accusations, the accused, Nzuki pleaded guilty of the charges and was handed a Sh 100,000 fine or 12 months behind bars.

In his ruling Karani read: “The Court has found Antony Nzuki guilty of breaching the law. Therefore as per the law, the court orders him to pay a fine of Sh 100,000 or serve a one year jail term.”
