A Mombasa-based matatu driver has exuded confidence in emerging victorious in the August 8 polls.Samuel Mwambegu, alias Adebayo, said he will beat his opponents and clinch the Frere Town MCA seat come August. The 27-year-old aspirant said he will champion the rights of youth if elected, and accused the incumbent, Amir Thoya, of doing little to better the lives of youth in the ward.“He (Thoya) failed to help the youth secure employment opportunities at the county government. Majority of the MCAs helped their youth supporters to be employed as county inspectorate officers, but Thoya failed us completely,” said Mwambegu, as quoted by The Star. He said he did not expect to win because his opponents were considered to be more serious, and thanked his supporters for believing in him.“Those two other aspirants were seen to be more serious than me, a matatu driver, but by God’s grace I was able to win fair and square,” he said. Adebayo, who will vie on a Jubilee ticket, downplayed allegations that his ODM rival will carry the day, saying that the electorate support his bid.“I know there is a perception that this region is an ODM zone, but we are sure that we will beat them hands down in August 8,” he said.He garnered 408 votes against his rival Hussein Osman's 378 during the Jubilee Party nominations.
