The officer was referring to an incident earlier on Friday morning where a disabled man was knocked down by a Matatu in Makongeni area of Kiambu County.

He said that a traffic offence involving a disabled person must be dealt with accordingly adding that drive r of the matatu would be prosecuted by Saturday morning.

“The Matatu drivers must care for lives of the other road users and understand they are not the only road users. This man who knocked down a disabled man must face the law; we are taking him to court the first thing tomorrow morning to face prosecution. We want to safeguard other road users especially the disabled,” the officer said

The Matatu driver who was identified as James Kihara said that he did not see the man on his wheel chair since he had been affected by the tear gas which was being used to disperse the demonstrators.

He blamed the police for aiming at Matatus with the tear gas saying they were ill minded and wanted to harm them with the painful gas yet they were not the ones demonstrating.

The disabled man was rushed to Thika level 5 Hospital while the driver of the Matatu is being held at Thika police station waiting to be taken to court on Saturday.
