Matatu Owners Association chairman Simoni Kimutai has called on road engineers to re-design the Nakuru-Eldoret road along the Salgaa stretch to prevent accidents.

According to the Standard, Kimutai said most of the accidents happen around Salgaa area and nothing has been done to address the situation.

He called on engineers  to study the stretch and come up with long-lasting solution even if it means constructing a dual carriageway.

He further called on NTSA to work with traffic police officers in order to have a meaningful impact on road safety.

Kimutai said as currently constituted, the authority has no meaningful powers to enforce safety on Kenyan roads.

This comes after NTSA directive to  ban long distance travel on passenger service vehicles  to reduce road carnage along busy highways.

The directive comes less than 12 hours after road accident at Migaa that claimed 36 lives and left many with serious injuries.
