Matatu operators are counting huge returns following the Easter celebrations.

Speaking to us today in Kisii, they claimed to have made a kill in their businesses as most people traveled up-country.

“Since last week our customers have been coming in large numbers and we owe it to the Easter holiday because most people were traveling up-country and back,” said Jeremiah Khisa a driver.

The passengers, however, claimed that the operators used the opportunity to exploit them.

"Prices have been doubled since last week. This is very unfortunate. We are their customers yet they exploit us," said Christine Mwangi.

Some claim the operators are taking advantage of the large numbers.

“These operators are taking advantage of the large demand for public transport to exploit us. This is very shameful, they will still need us after the holiday,” said Jane Tomno a passenger.

The operators, however, refuted the accusations saying the fare prices have always been constant.
