The angry operators urged the county government of Kisii to move with speed to seal all open drainages along the road to avert disaster and protect other road users.

According to one member of a major Sacco in the town, John Monari, many vehicles had plunged into the shallow open trenches along the road and they have fears that they may be swept if the rains continue.

He said the trend is worrying and made worse by daily traffic jams in town considering the fact that there are many traders who use the road because it links the town and Daraja Mbili market one of the biggest market in the region.

He blamed the county government town cleaners for leaving open gutters which have become a threat to many road users.

“We are aware that the county government does set aside funds for the repairs but its so unfortunate that the road is still in a bad condition,” he added

He questioned the preparedness level of the county government on natural calamities, saying if urgent interventions are not instituted by relevant authorities, residents will experience disaster on a grand scale in days to come.

The officials also blamed the County’s disaster management team of sloppiness on the maintenance of key drainage and sewerage lines that have caused water to run and flood their houses whenever it rains.
