The traffic officers dropped the money while escaping the net of Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commision (EACC) officials who found them taking bribes from motorists on Wednesday.

According to Wilfred Mwaniki who witnessed the whole melee, several matatu operators scrambled and fought each other over the money that was dropped by the officers as they tried to escape from EACC officers.

George Giatu and Philip Muraya, who operate along the Njoro-Mau Narok route, are said to have sustained serious injuries as they struggled with others to grab the money that was scattered on the road near the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology.

“The conductors had respectively ordered their drivers to stop at the scene to witness the unfolding drama but started scrambling for money that had been dropped by the police.

Mwaniki added that the affected touts have not reported on duty since that day as they are still nursing the injuries.

In a surprise ambush on corrupt traffic police officers, EACC officers raided notorious road blocks along Nakuru-Nairobi, Nakuru-Nyahururu, Nakuru-Eldoret and Nakuru-Narok highways and arrested several traffic police officers who were engaged in collecting bribes from motorists.
