A showdown is looming between Nyanza matatu operators and the police if their demand to have the number of roadblocks reduced is not done in the next two weeks.
According to the operators, the roadblocks are hot spots of corruption and they are intending to send their petition to the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to have their grievance addressed in the next two weeks failure to which they will hold protests.
They also demand that the police should be given pocket-less uniforms as a way to curb corruption they claim is very rampant in the area.
Matatu Owners Association chairman Bob Andala said there are roadblocks at almost every five-kilometer intervals in the Nyanza region.
"At an interval of every five counties, you find a roadblock either from NTSA, highway patrol, traffic or even crime department," Andala was said.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting which was attended by regional Sacco's on Monday, Andala said they have to part with at least Sh100 whenever they cross a roadblock.
Andala said that they lose to a tune of Sh72 million on one route.
