Matatu Owners Association (MOA) has announced its members will provide free transport for the old and People Living with Disabilities (PLWD) during the August election.
MOA Chairman Simon Kimutai said the offer aims at ensuring the old and PLWDs get a chance to exercise their democratic right of participating in elections.“There will be vehicles that will transport old people who are unable to walk on their own and those living with various forms of disabilities,” he said in Nairobi on Monday.“This is one of the efforts we are putting in place to ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta gets more votes as we support his re-election.”Kimutai said the decision was arrived at after consulting the association’s members who unanimously vetoed the proposal.“The decision was made after making wide consultations. All our members voted for the idea and we are in the process of identifying matatu vehicles that will provide transport on Election Day.”Among the many registered groups that Uhuru met ahead of the 2013 general election was MOA. He told the group to support his election during the election in which he defeated then Cord leader Raila Odinga by over 500,000 votes. The meeting which took place at the Safaricom International Sports Centre Kasarani was attended by over 1,000 MOA executives drawn from across the country.
